Data sources, actions and blockers

The UK Government Digital Service (GDS) leads digital transformation in government, collaborating with teams from other departments to help them build better public services. Alongside those departmental teams, GDS is transforming government together.

GDS has a large and complex digital analytics implementation (currently using Google Analytics and Piwik). GOV.UK and other GDS websites and digital services generate over 500 million hits a year and there are around 1000 users, accessing data over a large number of properties and views. And as most of the digital performance analysts focus their work on the data needs of their agile team, it can be hard to find the time to do all the vital work to support and manage the platform behind this.

Pointing at data

So we’re creating a new role for a senior digital analyst to be our analytics platform manager. You will bring together your technical knowledge, governance experience and strong stakeholder engagement skills. We’re looking for someone who will take a strategic approach to our analytics implementation and governance. We expect you’ll have worked for 7+ years in digital analytics and have:

  • an excellent technical knowledge of analytics had responsibility for managing digital analytics in your organisation
  • developed and implemented associated policies, processes and governance
  • the ability to get buy-in from, and have credibility with, product managers, developers, information security colleagues and non-specialist users as well as other performance analysts (both senior and more junior — who work embedded in multi-disciplinary product teams).

You’ll also be a member of the GDS Performance and Data Analysis community. As well as being your main stakeholder; the community provides support and training to develop your skills.

This is an excellent opportunity to help us improve our implementation and governance. More information and how to apply is available at the GDS recruitment site. And read this blog post to find out what it’s like to join GDS as a Performance Analyst.

Peter Jordan is Head of Performance and Data Analysis at GDS.
